Former Hamilton Red Wing played on 1962 Memorial Cup team
One of the major players of the 1962 Memorial Cup-winning Hamilton
Red Wings died recently in a snowmobile accident.
Pit Martin, who played with the Red Wings for four seasons in
the early 1960s, was an instrumental part of the 1962 winning club.
Named “Pit” after a popular comic strip of the time,
Hubert Jacques Martin was from Quebec, and went on to a solid NHL
career playing for the Detroit Red Wings, the Boston Bruins, the
Chicago Black Hawks, and the Vancouver Canucks before retiring
in 1979. He played in 1101 games with 809 points.
Martin, 64, died when his snowmobile went through the ice on a
lake near his hometown of Rouyn-Noranda.
