Situated on a 95-acre parcel on Hamilton’s East Mountain,
the Mohawk 4-Ice Centre is the area’s newest and largest
facility for hockey.
Built at a cost of $16.3 million, the facility includes four NHL-size
rinks each with seating for 150, a multi-use area of 8,000 square
feet, and 18 playing fields (soccer, football, baseball) on the
property.
The 136,000 square foot complex officially opened in 2005 after
a business plan was accepted by the city in October of 2003. It
was built by Nustadia Recreation Inc., and this firm also operates
the complex. The company builds and provides operational services
for arenas across Canada. Nustadia also performed the renovations
on the Inch Park and Parkdale (Pat Quinn) arenas in Hamilton.
Financed by the city, the facility is managed by Nustadia over
a 10-year period with two five-year renewals.
“This wonderful new arena and the partnerships that have
been created for the construction and management of the facility,
represent an exciting venture that gives our residents access to
enhanced services in a very cost efficient manner,” said
then Hamilton Mayor Larry Di Ianni during the official opening
ceremonies held in September of 2005.
The facility offers a wide variety of hockey programs, both in
competition and development, for all ages. The center is also home
to the Stoney Creek Oldtimers Hockey Association, the Hamilton
Junior Bull Dogs, and the Adult Safe Hockey League.
