Hockey History
Police Minor a big part of Hamilton youth hockey
The Hamilton Police Minor Association was a big part of
the Hamilton sporting scene for close to 40 years. Boys of a wide
range of ages played hockey and baseball in a well-organized sanctioned
throughout the city.
The Police Minor Association began in 1948, taking
over from the Hamilton Optimists Club sponsorship of hockey and
baseball. Officers ran the organization on a volunteer basis, and
at one time had over 500 participants. Many who played Police Minor
hockey, such as Pat Quinn, went on to careers in the sport.
The
organization remained in place until the early 1980s when budget
restrictions forced it to abandon its participation.
